tour de central noco
well the weekend is over, and i'm a bit sore.
as i know most of you all are following le tour de france intently, as you should, i am following it and doing a bit of some riding myself.
friday night, my dad asked me if i wanted to go for a bike ride saturday morning. i said sure. no, this isn't a lolly dally to get some saturday morning coffee in old town (although i love doing that). i knew this was a get-on-your-shorts-cleats-and-helmet type of ride. we were going for more than a stroll.
saturday, we slept in till eight and got on our bicycle shorts, our jerseys, our helmets, our sunglasses, and our shoes. we were off. a ride through fort collins, across i-twenty five to windsor, past the kodak plant on highway three fifty seven to johnstown back across the interstate to berthoud to fort collins via loveland. approximately sixty-three miles was the total trip (despite getting a flat two and a half miles from my house at the end).
i must say, there's nothing like eating a good meal after a long ride. it's good stuff. after dinner, we called my uncle to see if he would want to ride the next day. he said he would, but wanted to see how we were after we woke up.
sunday, we woke up and were both looking forward to another day of riding. having gone to church the night before, we were preparing for a good day by going grocery shopping. against my will, we went to wal-mart. we then to a local health food sunflower market, then completed our trip at whole foods.
my uncle called and was still surprised we would be ready to ride despite the record-breaking heat (we saw one hundred five degrees, but it may have been marginally hotter). we decided we would leave from his house and head straight east on highway fourteen, then my aunt would leave hours later and drive until she caught up with us. as soon as we left, both my dad and i agreed our seats hurt a bit. we rendez vous-ed with my uncle then were off. as it was calm, out of nowhere a fierce wind came up. it was coming from the west. we fought it off going north for a few miles, but when we turned east, it was the best tailwind. we were off. many hills and climbs met us, but it felt great. we passed ault with ease then were off to brigsdale. there we went to a campsite and got some water. the attendant greeted us and showed us the pump with better water and asked if there was anything we needed. we didn't but thanked her and were on our way. at that point, my uncle decided to go on ahead (he passed one thousand miles for the summer on that trip so he was in better shape). my dad and i slowed down to about sixteen miles per hour for the next eighteen miles. my aunt picked us up there.
stats:day two
max speed: thirty six mph (approximately fifty eight kmh)
average speed: approximately eighteen mph (approximately twenty eight and a half kmh)
total distance: sixty one miles
my legs are a bit sore, but i feel good. it was a fun weekend.
as a side note, check this out about fort collins.
