i'm speechless

france struggled through the qualifying for world cup 2006, and when it came time for the world cup, zinedine zidane came out of retirement to help les bleus during the world cup.

at the beginning, france looked like a mediocre team and did not show too much excitement. as the tournament went on, france kept getting better and found ways to win. then they made it to the world cup final.

in the first twenty minutes, zinedine zidane scored a penalty kick on a controversial call, then italy came back and tied it. the whole game was back and forth with both sides having their chances. it was a nail-biting contest for everyone watching. regulation ended with a one one tie, and extra time was played. the first fifteen minutes was somewhat boring as france controlled the ball but didn't score. the second overtime will go down in history forever, unfortunately for france. unfortunately for zidane.

as stated before, zidane came out of retirement to help les bleus to the final. he was well respected and people all over wanted to see him win a world cup in his last game...so, why did he do what he did? what did he do?

in the one hundred tenth minute, marco materazzi must have said something to zidane that zidane didn't like. zidane proceded to headbutt materazzi leaving him flat on the ground. zidane got a red card and left a bad taste in fans all over the world. i was chearing for france and was biting my nails, but after zidane headbutted materazzi, i lost interest and didn't care about the outcome. i felt if france won, they didn't deserve it, but if they lost, they deserved it. it was a very unfortunate event, and it will be remembered for a long time to come. it was the worst world cup game i have ever seen.

* on a personal note, this cost me a bet or two

I think that dude (france) probably would be justified in some fashion for whatever was said, but sportsmanship should have prevailed. But, that is the most aggression that france has shown in many years.
