happy birthday lacoste

july second, nineteen o' four lacoste was born. not the clothing brand, the man, the crocodile, jean rené lacoste.

most people don't know there is such a guy. most people know lacoste as being the trendy clothes worn around the world. most people know the funky clothes made in france. jean rené lacoste is the beginning. jean rené lacoste is l'homme.

jean rené lacoste made a name for himself as a tennis player in the twenties. he claimed singles titles in the french, us, and british opens, as well as, forrest hills and wimbledon. he also was part of the doubles winning the french championships, french open, british open, and wimbledon. he was ranked number one in nineteen twenty six and nineteen twenty seven. i know, you love learning about lacoste's tennis career, but you're really wondering about the clothes...of course.

one time he bet a friend that he would win a tennis match and the prize was an alligator-skin suitcase. after winning, his friend embroidered a crocodile on his jacket and the american press started calling him "the alligator." in nineteen thirty three lacoste collaborated with andré gillier, the president of the largest french knitwear manufacturing firm, to sell his "crocodile wear." so there you have it.

He truly is. You should ask him why he was into the Minnesota Vikings way back in the day . . . and why he didn't admit to what everyone knew about his love of this team until only a few years ago . . .

as for the minnesota vikings fascination...i was living in the early nineties era in which purple, turquoise, and neon green were very very in. i took this as purple became my favorite color and the minnesota vikings was the only football team to carry the vibrant color.

i have to admit, i like basketball/football/baseball, but so does every other guy. i can only set myself apart from main stream sports society by taking a fascination to the lesser-followed sports. that is charming to me.
